LION Devlog September Progres


Good day to all, while everybody in vacations in September I continued work on LION, the full level design was completely finished for this month including two additions I decided to make, two dungeons like those from Zelda, I always wanted to make my own, although these are just samples of how dungeons in LION will work, after all this was made specifically for the demo World.

  • Final level Design

The world itself grew quite a lot for what I had intendent before, but that comes natural as you keep developing them game making this demo world has been  extremely useful and it will be more once I receive feedback from players once the final demo is realized, The game required an unique take on level design since its an Action adventure mixed with an RTS, the last thing I added this first moth of October was the so need it Aim assist, this is crucial for my gamepad control but I added it to both the 3rd person aim and also to the top down cursor to easily get to focused on targets and not struggling to actually aim to hit one.

 

  • Mechanimoren Dungeon

Mechanimoren is the first dungeon in which you can enter, is a huge mechanical facility that provides power to the entire world, this dungeon or at least its stile will appear in the final game located far to the south on a desert, of course due time constrains it is impossible for me to make such world as of yet.


Mechanimoren is a mechanical Dungeon and like in Zelda it requires keys to open several of its gates however the keys here are color coded and will open all gates of the same color. The dungeon also includes a key upgrade to complete it and also defeating a boss to obtain a key upgrade to progress.

Due time constrains the Final boss of Mechanimoren is a modified version of HIM, and upon defeating it the player has access to a 4th Cut child need it to open the final gate.

The dungeon is filled of Puzzles and Platforming challenges which require extensive use of the 2 first tools obtained, the Climbing Claws and the grappling hook.


There are also Battle encounters that will lock you in the room until you have dealt with all enemies in the area.

  • Judges Castle Dungeon

The judge’s castle is the 2nd… Mini dungeon I would say, I say that because is youst the entrance. The true dungeon is the castle up head, however that will be only available for the final game.

Your job in this dungeon is to reach the end, because of the small size and limited space, I had to place the dungeon item the Magic Gloves outside of it on a tower located on the red void, a section placed in the far East of the map.

The castle is then mostly a gauntlet of enemies, with few puzzles placed in between but nothing two fancy, there is some type of dungeon item thought and is a 4th Magic blue child need it to open access to the final gate, it will require 4 cut and magic children and 3 impact and pierce children to enter, thus the demo will be completed.

  • Dungeon Gates and keys

Something that is adding a lot with the Games performance are the gates, in the dungeons, it allowed me to develop a loading and unload system mainly for enemies and Performance consumption assets, the game uses unreal engine 5 World partition streaming for static meshes however there is an identified error caused by it causing crashes in objects like enemies, I fund the problem and I should be able to fix it in the following days.



  • Cinematics

This October I will be making al the cinematics of the game, this first week was to set up what I was going to do and to bug fix the most crucial aspects of the game, now all is ready for me to start making them, to give you an example here is the First cinematic you will see, when Rosamunde awakens intis weird world. The game will have around 10 core cinematics, which is a lot but will also allow me to make a more cinematic trailer witch always helps to sell more and give excitement.


The First stage of the game is almost complete and it fells I have made a full game, which considering the scope of this ¨Demo¨ Fells like it as its lasting way to much more that a simple 15 or 30 minute gameplay demonstration. In any case excuse me for the Late update, this week was quite full things to do on top of a huge storm that hit. A lot of cities in Venezuela are flood it because of it.
